About Us

SAT PLATING - MAKING PLASTICS PERFORM. SAT Plating was formed in 2006 to develop a breakthrough technology for increasing the adhesion of metal platings to engineered plastics, and thereby expand the range of polymer options available to manufacturers, engineers, designers and purchasing departments.

Today, SAT provides ISO 9001:2015 Certified plating services at our two facilities located in Troy, MI. With 17,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, our plants feature state-of-the-art plating and environmental control systems. SAT employs its proprietary technology to plate a broad variety of plastics with both functional and decorative metals. For rapid prototype parts, our metal platings can add structural strength as well.

Our typical customer, industry and material segments are wide-ranging, and include:

AUTOMOTIVE

COMPUTERS / AEROSPACE / TELECOM

MEDICAL

APPLIANCE

ADVANCED PROCESSING TECHNIQUES = SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE

To aid our client’s efforts, SAT Plating has developed a suite of processes we call Adaptive Plating Technologies. These groundbreaking processes enable our clients to employ new and innovative approaches to their product design, material selection and production methodologies – often achieving higher performance with lower cost.

At SAT Plating we have expanded the universe of plateable plastics to include highly difficult-to-plate plastics such as ASA, TPO, PA (nylon), PPS, PEEK and PEI (Ultem™) materials, just to name a few.

This is made possible by SAT's proprietary Surface Activation® Process. This treatment enables us to improve the atomic structure of the polymer surface while using no abrasive blasting or hazardous chemical etching of the substrate. The result is superior adhesion of metal platings without causing dimensional changes or eroding fine details in injection molded parts.

Surface Activation® Processing, along with our suite of other Adaptive Plating Technologies, can be applied to films, membranes and fabric configurations as well, allowing us to achieve best-in-class metal plating deposits for:

  • Structural, functional and appearance finishes
  • Superior adhesion of plated finishes
  • More reliable product performance through time, temperature and other environmental variations
