Dr. Debra Johnson’s Biography


Dr. Debra Johnson is an English instructor who has published five books:  How to Read the Bible (2001), The Gospel of the Kingdom:77 Questions and Answers (2001), Time Out for the Reprobate Saint! (2002), Teacher Characteristics and Effective Implementation of the Accelerated Reader Program, as Reported by Teachers of African American Students (dissertation, 2017), and The Black Sons of Abraham (in 2020 on this site, in 2021 paperback on Amazon.com, Lord willing). A native Detroiter, Dr. Johnson grew up in the Marygrove Community. After she was graduated from Cass Technical High School, she attended Wayne State University and emerged with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education and a master’s degree in Education with a major in School and Community Psychology. In 2017, she joyfully received a Ph.D. in Reading Education from Oakland University. She is a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and fellowships with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). The Single Perspective is the newsletter of the International Single People’s Alliance of the PAW. and she is the editor of the bimonthly publication. Dr. Johnson has taught a myriad of subjects which include English, journalism, creative writing, Advanced Placement Psychology, AP English Language, and AP English Literature for over 20 years to urban and suburban students. She invented the Basic Essay Skeleton in 1994 to help adults write essays required to pass the G.E.D. The skeleton has been used by her students to win contests, to increase scores on the ACT, SAT, AP tests, and create college application essays. Copies are available on this website.
