The Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition (BBCC) is a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)(3) collaborative organization that was established in 1995. The mission of the BBCC is to raise awareness and mobilize the entire community to prevent the abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. While working with the public and private schools, local law enforcement, and other community groups, the BBCC is able to reach and challenge individuals in all community sectors to initiate, encourage and support prevention efforts. The BBCC envisions a community that expects no use of alcohol by the underage population, no use of illegal substances by anyone, and low risk use of alcohol by those of legal age. There are many annual events that the BBCC sponsors to help with this vision including a summit that brings hundreds of community members together to discuss issues of substance abuse. A campaign in the spring, Parents Who Host, Lose the Most, has the BBCC partnering with the police to inform parents of the legal issues they could face when supplying alcohol to minors. As the kids go back to school in the fall, there is Family Day to promote family dinners as an effective way to reduce substance abuse among children and teens.
