| 994 Detroit (March 2010) - A Toast to Toast |
| Writer Kelly McKay says "With a new dinner menu, live entertainment, delicious cocktails, and affordable prices, it's safe to say Toast isn't just for breakfast anymore." She continues, "Toast is the kind of place where diners come as they are without having to sacrifice excellent service, impressive dishes and fine cocktails. So stop in, raise a glass and share a toast." |
|
| DetroitMommies.com (February 3, 2010) |
| "October 1 (2009) marked the 1 year anniversary for the downtown Birmingham location. From what I can see and taste, this place is here to stay. My taste buds are still dancing and I wish my arm was hooked up to an IV with their amazing Blueberry Margarita. My experience was top notch and I can't wait to go back." | OaklandCountyMoms.com (February 4, 2010) |
| Reviewer Lisa Lagrou writes, "Toast is the perfect place for an after work get together to unwind with some great finger foods and some drinks that will have you forgetting about the bad week you had. The atmosphere is very modern, romantic, beautifully decorated and just plain fun. Casual enough for families, and a great match for the perfect date night. It's the type of place that is surrounded with an ambiance that lifts your mood!" | TwoHungryDudes.com (January 25, 2010) |
| Writer Joe Hakim says, "Upon walking through the doors at Toast, I was struck by the mix of metallic, soft, & kitschy. It all works together to blend into something welcoming.ďż˝ The atmosphere is laid back & fun. Toast is a place where you could have a steak, fries, & a beer or a perfect spot for a date night." | Examiner.com (March 29, 2010) |
| David Moss of examiner.com says "Toast in Birmingham is turning some heads these days. The atmosphere is comfy and inviting. The decor is an eclectic mix of retro and contemporary art and knick knacks. I've enjoyed breakfast, lunch dinner and cocktails at this location and found the food and service quite good." He continues, "Try Toast any time of day. You won't be disappointed." |

| MetroTimes Interviews Chef Jeff Rose (March 24, 2010) |
| Metro Times asked Chef Rose, "What new cuisines or trends are apt to appear next?" Rose replied, "People are doing big, bold flavors. That's the trend: clean flavors, Peruvian, South American flavors are very bold." Read the entire interview at www.metroaimes.com/food/story.asp?id=14901 |
|
| Table Talk, Meet the Chef: Jeff Rose (Crain's Detroit Business, Dec. 30, 2009) |
| Nathan Skid asks Chef Rose, "What is your favorite item on the menu?" Chef Rose replies, "The seared salmon with lemongrass basil broth and rice noodles. I love lemongrass because it's light and effervescent but not overpowering. To me, chicken should taste like chicken, beef should taste like beef. So if you don't like salmon or are only eating it because it's a health alternative you won't like this dish." (To read the entire interview, go to http://tinyurl.com/ChefJeffRose |

| A Toast to Toast (Redux), Dining in Detroit (December 15, 2009) |
| Nicole Rupersburg writes, "Much like their food, which is cleverly trendy yet completely comfortable at its base, Toast is a comfortable, casual establishment which may look the part of upscale retro-chic Birmingham bistro, but plays more like a friendly (dare-I-say Ferndale?) diner. This is simply a great place to meet friends, have a few scrumptious cocktails, and enjoy some hearty food served with a mile by a fast new friend. | About The Joint |
| No matter the meal, Toast offers a big-city, cozy dining experience. The focus--gourmet food in a casual eatery.
Toast History:
Toast Ferndale, a breakfast and lunch joint, opened in 2001 to much fanfare, Toast Birmingham opened in 2008 and although it moved “uptown” and added dinner, cocktails, wine and beer, the new Toast stayed true to its Ferndale roots. Both restaurants open at dawn and offer an appetizing breakfast, award winning menu; both offer lunch; and both serve their delicious food in an unpretentious, casual and comfortable atmosphere.
The Skinny:
If you're searching for a cozy environ where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner, or seeking the perfect spot for drinks and conversation, Toast Birmingham is the place for you.
Our gourmet breakfast menu and fabulous season specials are unrivaled! In a lunch mood? Toast sandwiches are big and delicious--stacked tall with our daily roasted turkey or roast beef. We also serve a healthy selection of unique salads, delicious burgers, vegetarian dished and daily specials. Our dinner menu delivers big flavors, creative cutting-edge preparation and the freshest ingredients.
Award winning Executive Chef Jeff Rose specializes in "from scratch" American cuisine with the Toast twist. Chef Jeff Rose has worked in some of metro Detroit's finest and most eclectic restaurants, including Sweet Lorraine's, Big Rock Chophouse, Iridescence, and Tribute. Most recently he served as Executive Chef at Michael Symon's Roast during which time it was awarded "2009 Restaurant of the Year" by the Detroit Free Press.
Chef Rose is committed to making everything he serves (including stocks, soups, and sauces) from scratch. Additionally, he supports local Michigan farmers and purveyors through the use of local, sustainable cuisine. And we serve our own blend of Fair-Trade custom Breakfast Blend coffee roasted at Beanstro Specialty Coffee in Waterford.
Our full bar serves over 30 boutique wines from Michigan and around the world by the glass. Additionally our mixologists have crafted a variety of original Toast cocktails. Add to this our 30 craft beers and you have a unique and full rounded selection for your next night out.
Toast also entices diners with a number of weekly specials which further cements our identity as a casual and welcoming place: “Wine Down Wednesdays” features most of our wines by the glass at half off and “Taco Tuesdays” offers $2 tacos.
